NHL 20 Player Ratings for First Top 20 Players Including Auston Matthews, Jon Tavares

Over the past 24 hours, EA began to reveal some of the top 20 players for their NHL 20 player ratings. With the game just around the corner for September, it’s giving gamers an early preview of which players are going to be the best overall. While we’re still awaiting the reveal of the top 10, EA unveiled NHL 20 player ratings for the first half of the top 20. That includes Toronto Maple Leafs star Jon Tavares and the game’s cover star Auston Matthews.

NHL 20 player ratings: Malkin leads to top 10

Recently, we saw NHL players’ ratings in the top 50 up to No. 21 overall revealed. Now it’s time to look at top 20 players. EA’s NHL 20 Twitter account released each of the players ranked No. 20 through No. 11 over the past day. Every single one of them comes in with a 90 overall rating in the game, including cover athlete Auston Matthews, Tampa Bay’s Steven Stamkos, and Toronto’s John Tavares.

However, one man sits at the No. 11 spot, Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins. EA reasons that his 94 Slap Shot Power is what separates him from the rest of the group.

Malkin tallied 21 goals and 51 assists last season in 68 games played. For his career, he’s been in 852 games and scored 391 goals while also recording 611 assists, per Hockey Reference. He now appears outside of the top 10 players for the NHL 20 game. Both Malkin and Stamkos were in that upper group for the NHL 19 game which means there will be a few new players there this year.

Complete rankings for players 11 through 20

As mentioned, everyone in this group is a 90 overall including NHL 20 cover star Auston Matthews. The Leafs star checks in at No. 15 on the list and has some fans questioning his inclusion there. However, he is the cover star, and he’s also scored more 5-on-5 goals than any player in the league since his debut. Fans would have reason to debate if he was in the top 10, though.

Here’s a look at the NHL 20 player ratings look for players No. 11 through No. 20 on the upcoming game:

  • 11. Evgeni Malkin (Penguins) 90
  • 12. Steven Stamkos (Lightning) 90
  • 13. Patrice Bergeron (Bruins) 90
  • 14. Aleksander Barkov (Panthers) 90
  • 15. Auston Matthews (Maple Leafs) 90
  • 16. John Gibson (Ducks) 90
  • 17. Brad Marchand (Bruins) 90
  • 18. John Tavares (Maple Leafs) 90
  • 19. Mikko Rantanen (Avalanche) 90
  • 20. Johnny Gaudreau (Flames) 90

The list gives a pretty good indication of some of the players we’ll see in the top 10. EA has yet to reveal ratings for top stars including Sidney Crosby, Alexander Ovechkin, Patrick Kane, and Conor McDavid. Drew Doughty, Nikita Kucherov, and Carey Price should all be there as well.

Most likely, EA will reveal this over the course of the upcoming week, with the top players revealed by the end of the week. The new NHL 20 game officially arrives for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 13, 2019.
