NHL 20 Previews Ilya Kovalchuck, Patrick Marleau, and Other Players on New Teams After Trades

The NHL trade deadline for 2020 has officially arrived and with that, a number of players have joined new teams. That included Ilya Kovalchuck being traded to the Washington Capitals and Patrick Marleau going to Pittsburgh. On Monday, the NHL 20 game previewed four players on their new teams including Kovalchuck and Marleau. Those two players have now joined Stanley Cup contenders during their veteran careers.

Several “old faces” are in “new places” after the NHL trade deadline. That means NHL 20 gamers will be able to see how these players perform with their new teams in the video game. Those players include Patrick Marleau, Ilya Kovalchuck, Mike Green, and Vincent Trocheck.

Several days ago, Ilya Kovalchuck was sent from the Montreal Canadiens to the Washington Capitals. The Canadiens received a 2020 first-round pick while Washington gets a 13-year veteran of the league. Kovalchuck, an 83 overall in NHL 20, has tallied 442 goals and 430 assists over his career thus far.

Patrick Marleau is a longtime veteran of the league. The center was dealt by the San Jose Sharks to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Marleau’s career includes 518 goals and 584 assists so far. A report mentioned that the Sharks may welcome Marleau back next season as he’s on pace to break Gordie Howe’s all-time games played record.

Mike Green and Vincent Trocheck on new NHL teams

Sunday night the Detroit Red Wings traded Mike Green to the Edmonton Oilers. Green, a two-time All-Star has been a solid defenseman in the league for nearly 15 years now. In the NHL 20 game, he holds an 81 overall rating. Here he is sporting his Oilers gear in the video game.

Vincent Trocheck joined the Carolina Panthers. Trocheck, age 26, was a member of the Florida Panthers since his 2013-14 campaign in the league. He has 111 goals and 171 assists over his career so far including a 31-goal season in 2017-18. Carolina is hoping to get similar scoring production. Of the players spotlighted by NHL 20, he has the highest OVR at 84.

On the ESPN website, they graded the winners and losers for all of the recent NHL trades. Two of their winners are Marleau and Kovalchuck as ESPN indicates they’ve had great careers but have yet to win a Stanley Cup. Now they’ll have “as good a shot as they’ve ever had,” per ESPN.

In the NHL 20 video game, fans can now try to win that virtual Stanley Cup using the Penguins or Capitals with their new veteran acquisitions.
