NHL 22 Release Date & Pre-Order Details for Standard vs. X-Factor Edition

The NHL 22 release date has been revealed along with pre-order details for the upcoming EA hockey simulation game. Just days ago, we saw a trailer drop, which gave some interesting reveals, including Superstar X-Factors. Along with the trailer came the pre-order details with a Standard and X-Factor Edition. Here’s what you need to know for when the game arrives, and what the two editions feature.

Official NHL 22 reveal trailer shows Superstar X-Factors

Just last week, the first official NHL 22 reveal trailer arrived, giving hockey fans a look at the graphics for the upcoming game powered by Frostbite. The gameplay footage includes stars such as Sidney Crosby from the Penguins, Connor McDavid from the Edmonton Oilers, and Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The NHL 22 pre-orders went live along with the trailer reveal, which also had teases for various Superstar X-Factors that will appear in the game. These are special skills that specific star players unlock during games to give them extra boosts.

For example, EA revealed that Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy has Contortionist. The Maple Leafs’ Auston Matthews has a Superstar X-Factor called Shock and Awe.

Our cover star predictions were off, as just like FIFA and Madden, EA brought back recent cover stars. Auston Matthews returns as the cover star after he graced the front of NHL 20. He’s featured on the front of both the new Standard and Dynasty Edition of the NHL 22 game.

When is the NHL 22 release date?

The official NHL 22 release date is Friday, October 15, 2021. However, just like EA’s Madden and FIFA games, there is early access available.

For those who pre-order the Dynasty Edition, the game will be playable three days earlier. So that gives it an earlier release date of October 12, 2021.
