Nintendo “Killing off” Luigi Might Be a Hint as to What That Hidden Mode Is in Smash Bros. Ultimate

Ever since Nintendo had their Super Smash Bros. Ultimate-focused presentation last week, fans have been going crazy for two different reasons: the untimely death of Luigi thanks to a reaper and the mysterious new mode on the main menu that was shown but unfortunately blurred out. This isn’t the first time that Nintendo showed the death of a member of the Smash Bros. roster. When Ridley was first revealed, that trailer gave us the deaths of Mario and Mega Man, thanks to Ridley himself. Becuase of all of these “deaths” and Twitter user Noctulescent‘s investigation into the blurry mode, we might know what this secret mode entails.

As you can see, this devoted Super Smash Bros. fan found a way to get deep into the pixelated image and ended up finding out that the mode might be called “Spirits.” Fans think that this mode might have you collecting the spirits of the roster of characters in order to maybe add them to your game. This also might be a single-player mode ala Subspace Emissary that was present in Super Smash Bros. Brawl which was loaded with CG cutscenes that brought each and every character together to fight a great evil. Whatever this new mode turns out to be, we hope that it has more to offer than just a simple classic fighting mode that Smash for Wii U and 3DS opted for. Seeing all of these new characters in any sort of story mode would be spectacular.

What do you guys think this new mode is really going to be like? Do you think fans are going a little bit overboard with the speculation or do you think the hype is justified? Let us know your thoughts and opinions on the matter in the Nintendo forum, we would love to hear them!
