Photographer Showcases GeForce RTX by Taking Metro Exodus to Chernobyl
In a somewhat unorthodox and undoubtedly impressive piece of promotion, NVIDIA and Deep Silver joined up to send photographer Dylan Furst to Chernobyl, equipped with an ASUS ROG Zephyrus S laptop; a machine with both Metro Exodus and one of the latest RTX graphics card. The promotion was intended to showcase the graphical quality of an RTX-powered gaming laptop, and Furst did so by comparing scenes in Metro Exodus to real-world places in and around the abandoned Russian city.

It’s obvious why the location was chosen; as a city abandoned due to the 1986 nuclear disaster, Chernobyl is perhaps the place in the world which most closely resembles the landscapes of Metro Exodus. Indeed, Furst’s work shows just how closely the two have similarities. His photography depicts almost identical rusted train carriages and snowbound vistas between the real world and the laptop screen. The purpose, of course, was not just to show the power of an RTX card; it was to show that such cards could demonstrate impressive quality even on a laptop.
Metro Exodus is one of a number of new games which feature ray tracing; a pioneering new graphics technique developed by NVIDIA. The feature is currently only accessible via the company’s new line of RTX graphics cards, along with other new developments like DLSS support. Of course, these impressive aspects are only available to a minority of PC gamers at present. However, they are likely to become much more widespread in the coming years. There’s even a possibility that they could move to consoles as Microsoft and Sony launch new console generations.
Metro Exodus launched back in February to highly positive critical reviews. Indeed, despite its PC exclusivity to the Epic Games Store, the game enjoyed the strongest ever launch week sales of a Metro game. It became the most played Metro game in its launch week as well.
