Rumor: PlayStation 5 Controller Biofeedback Feature On the Way

There has been a lot in the way of both news and rumors regarding the PlayStation 5 controller. Photos were allegedly leaked in January. Also, the PS5 controller might be compatible with the PS4—but no one is sure. Now, there is another rumor that a PlayStation 5 controller biofeedback feature could be in the works.

Why a PlayStation 5 Controller Biofeedback Feature May Be Coming

The PlayStation 5 controller biofeedback rumor is based on a US patent application which lists Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe as the applicant. The patent describes, “a biofeedback sensor attachment for a controller, a biofeedback sensor attachment comprising one or more sensors for obtaining biofeedback information arranged such that at least one sensor is in contact with the user’s hand during normal use of the controller, and an output unit operable to output the biofeedback information about measurements made by one or more sensors.”

Another interesting quote from the patent is, ” biofeedback information is used to select between one or more options presented in a piece of content without the user having to provide further input.”

The patent also points out how this technology fits into the “immersion” theme which we keep hearing about with regards to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The text states, “There is a desire in computer gaming to provide an immersive and highly interactive experience for players, so as to enhance the enjoyment of the player. This has become of particular interest with the increasing availability of head-mounted displays.”

But the existence of the patent does not represent confirmation that the PlayStation 5 controller biofeedback feature will definitely be incorporated into the finished controller. Nonetheless, it does mean that Sony is at least investing in possible research and development in this area.

So, if there is any further news concerning the biofeedback feature or other features or specs for the PlayStation 5 controller, we will update you in our PlayStation news section.
