Thus far, Activision has refrained from releasing any official information about Call of Duty: Warzone, but a series of leaks have already revealed quite a lot about the upcoming battle royale game. Now, another apparent leak has emerged, including the claim that the game will be squads only, along with an apparent release date.
The Latest (Unverified) Call of Duty: Warzone Leak
This latest rumour was posted on Twitter by a user named Okami, who has previously shared leaked info that was later proven accurate. Of course, it’s not possible to verify any of this information. (And as always, online rumours should be taken with a grain of salt!) However, this rumour does carry a bit more weight than some others. In their tweet, which lists several details about Call of Duty: Warzone, Okami claims that it will be squads only; that is to say that it won’t feature a solo or duos modes, for example.
Call of Duty: Warzone being squads only wouldn’t exactly be surprising. Other battle royale games have also launched with only one option, only to add others post-launch. In Apex Legends‘ case, the game only offers a duos mode very occasionally; a strategy which closely aligns with Activision’s own strategy of offering limited-time game modes in their Call of Duty games. Okami’s tweet also notes that the game will be free-to-play, and that it will be in its own separate client. Both of these things aren’t new claims, but they do corroborate previous leaks. Although Call of Duty: Warzone is technically Modern Warfare’s battle royale mode, it will reportedly be free-to-play as a standalone game too.
Finally, Okami claims that Call of Duty: Warzone is launching on the 10th of March. That date does potentially align with previous rumours about the release date. At present, the lack of promotional marketing from Activision is noteworthy, but it’s possible that they are attempting to mirror Apex Legends’ launch, which also featured almost no pre-release marketing. Furthermore, Okami claims that a trailer for the game is ready, and will release “either on Thursday or on Monday”. Thursday has since come and gone with no trailer release, however. As such, fans should wait and see whether a trailer does emerge on Monday. If so, then the claim that the game is launching on the 10th will be looking much stronger.
