Post-Launch Plans for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Crossplay

The second Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Beta weekend, which is due to begin tomorrow, will be the first to feature crossplay. In fact, this will be the very first time that crossplay has ever been available in a Call of Duty game. Activision recently revealed to fans how the Modern Warfare crossplay system will work. Then, following on from that, they gave a brief glimpse at their post-launch plans for the feature.

Plans for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Crossplay Post-Launch

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare crossplay will be available throughout the second Beta weekend, enabling gamers to play with one another on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. The Call of Duty series has never had crossplay before, making this a series first. There are some rules and options to the system, of course. Players can choose whether to opt in or out of crossplay, for example. Plus, the system will filter players by control input; i.e., all players using controllers will play together, regardless of platform. However, they will be kept separate from players using keyboard/mouse. Although you can choose to use a playlist without this filter if you wish.

Crossplay will be available in all of the Modern Warfare multiplayer game modes. However, it will not be available for tournaments or ranked play. Post-launch, Activision and Infinity Ward are planning to add a variety of new content options; all of which should feature crossplay. “The team has worked to ensure that content will be released in a way that enables all players to continue to seamlessly play together,” explains Activision; “Most post-launch gameplay content, including new multiplayer maps, new multiplayer modes, special ops missions and more will release simultaneously across all platforms.”

Fans can expect more information about this post-launch content prior to the game’s release. The reason why the company may feel the need to specify their crossplay release plans post-launch is that new content has often come to the PS4 ahead of other consoles. Indeed, the first Modern Warfare Beta was only available on the PS4, as was the preceding Alpha. Activision has also said that PS4 players; “will have an exciting Day 1 advantage,” when the game releases. Given their partnership with PlayStation, PS4 users will no doubt get bonuses and extras unavailable on other platforms. However, with the arrival of crossplay, they may no longer get new content early.
