The PS5 Logo Has Been Breaking Records for Engagement on Social Media

The big reveal of the PlayStation 5 logo during CES 2020 has turned into something of a running joke online. There was so much hype in advance of its reveal. So everyone was pretty amused when it turned out to be almost identical to the logo for PS4. But ironically, despite not being anything all that new or revolutionary, the PS5 logo has been setting records on social media.

The PS5 Logo Is Setting Impressive Social Media Engagement Records

VGC reported that on Instagram, “Less than 48 hours after it was posted, the PS5 logo image has amassed almost five million likes and 136,000 comments, easily surpassing the second-placed image post, Fortnite’s Avengers Endgame crossover announcement from April 2019 (2.7 million likes).”

What really makes these figures amazing is when you compare them to the Instagram reveal for Xbox Series X and the engagement that post garnered. After an entire month, that post got 438,000 likes and 11,200 comments. Seriously, that was the post announcing the console. This was just a post announcing the logo for the competing console!

This seems to be more a comment on the viral way the PS5 logo and its subsequent memes caught on rather than on the popularity of PlayStation versus Xbox. The majority of PlayStation’s Instagram posts never achieve anywhere near these levels of engagement.

In other news about the PlayStation 5, it looks like we may soon be able to start placing pre-orders for the next generation console. Also, there are rumors that the PS5 will be backwards compatible well beyond PS4. Further, Sony has emphasized its commitment to creating amazing first party games during the PS5 era.
