The Last of Us Part II Director Says PS5 SSD is the “Biggest Leap in My Career”

We have heard a great deal for many months now regarding the SSD in the PlayStation 5 and how amazing it is. But perhaps one of the most dramatic comments yet concerning the SSD comes from the Last of Us Part II director Kurt Margenau (co-director, to be specific). Indeed, Margenau talked about the SSD very favourably in a recent tweet.

What the Last of Us Part II Director Said About the PS5 SSD

You can view the tweet below:

Margenau wrote, “Still tripping about this #PS5 SSD spec. Like, people don’t even know how big of a leap in terms of game design can be made, especially for 1st party that doesn’t have to design to lowest common denominator. By far the biggest leap in my career. Can’t wait.”

Also worth checking out is another tweet from Andrew Maximov, former technical art director at Naughty Dog:

Maximov posted, “Just saw the new @PlayStation #PS5 presentation. Great job @cerny! Since I routinely have to explain to people why I’m excited for an SSD for rendering I thought I’d write a little thread to explain. Case in point: Uncharted 1 to Last of Us transition. The jump in quality between the 2 is quite staggering yet both utilized identical graphics hardware. Tons of work went into improving the look by the graphics engineers and the artists, but all of this has to be facilitated by managing a lot more data fast.”

So, it seems like we have a lot to look forward to, even if the PS5 is more of an “evolution” than a “revolution.” Keep up with future news and rumors on the PS5 and Xbox Series X in our PlayStation news section.
