Rumor: PS5 and Xbox Series X Costs May Be Around $500

How much will the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X cost? We have heard a huge range of predictions of the past couple years. But now, some analysts are suggesting that the PS5 and Xbox Series X costs could be close to $500.

Analysts Say PS5 and Xbox Series X Costs Could Be Around $500

Piers Harding-Rolls of IHS Markit Technology told Games Industry, “I also expect pricing of both PS5 and Xbox Series X to be similar, and I think it’s more likely than not they will be higher than the PS4 launch price point of $399.” Harding-Rolls also expects that PS5 will outsell Xbox Series X.

Dr. Serkan Toto also gave his prediction, saying, “Microsoft will likely avoid shenanigans like higher price (I expect $499 price tags for both), weaker specs, restrictions to used disc sales etc.”

It is understandable that predictions have ranged down to around $400 from some analysts, in light of historical launch price points. But with the sophisticated technology under the hoods of both these next gen consoles, it is hard to imagine they will not cost more. So, this is why we have heard much higher cost predictions as well (i.e. $600 or more).

But $500 or so seems like the most reasonable prediction overall. First, it is mid-way between $400 and $600. Secondly, it is more expensive than $399, but not so expensive as to seem exorbitant. Most gamers probably will feel fine about shelling out around $500 for a PS5 or Xbox Series X.

In our PlayStation news section, we will let you know how much the next generation consoles will cost when their launch prices are announced by Sony and Microsoft. Until then, you can catch up on other headlines regarding PS5 and the next Xbox.
