PUBG PC Players Get New ‘Steel Rain’ Game Mode, Available Now

Looking to get in some PUBG tonight? There’s a brand new game mode available for you to check out, which just debuted late last night. The “Steel Rain” mode introduces a series of light armored vehicles into the game for the first time, and gives you a squad of eight players to tool around with. With these new additions, the game’s dynamics change once more, which should key up the tension and danger when it comes to typical gunfights.

Starting out in Steel Rain, you can create an eight-person squad with your friends or choose to be matchmake with other groups. You don’t even have to start out in a squad if that’s not your cup of tea. Alternatively, you can simply jump into the game solo. When you start out, you’ll find flare guns in random locations around the map. When you shoot one off outside of the circle, an armored all-terrain vehicle called a UAZ will literally rain from the sky — hence the “Steel Rain” name. They’re ridiculously difficult to destroy, which can either be a great thing or a terrible thing depending on which side you’re on.

The UAZs are a major boon if you can grab one, and the flare guns are found often enough that you should be able to get vehicles for most people in your squad if you look hard enough. You’ll probably want a few if you want to stand a chance, because running around without protection is a pretty bad idea. The whole idea of Steel Rain is forcing players to start shooting at each other a lot quicker than they typically would when searching for equipment, and so far it seems to be working like a charm.

Want to hop online with some friends and check it out? Steel Rain will only be up and running for a limited time until an unspecified hour on Monday. You’ve got to take the weekend and experiment with it before it goes away. It’s possible it could eventually come back at some point, but that’s something we just don’t know at this point. Better to check it out while you can now.
