Bethesda and id Software recently announced a suitably strange pre-order bonus for their upcoming shooter game Rage 2. Those who pre-order the zany sequel shooter will unlock an in-game “cheat” called ‘He’s On Fire.’ With the cheat active, NBA Jam commentator Tim Kitzrow will supply over-the-top voiceover during combat encounters.
It also turns out that the He’s On Fire cheat is just one of an entire series of in-game cheats. Bethesda recently detailed how the cheats will function, confirming that none will be locked behind a paid microtransaction.
Rage 2 In-Game Cheats
According to this recent post from Bethesda, Rage 2 will have a whole bunch of cheats. The exact number is being kept hidden for now, but the post details the following cheats:
- Git Gud: This cheat enables insta-gibbing, allowing the player to kill enemies with a single hit.
- Son of Thor: When enabled, Son of Thor spawns a constant electric field around the player, shocking any enemies who get too close.
- Klegg Support: Spawn in infamous Rage 2 NPC Klegg Clayton as a friendly AI ally.
- Phoenix Rejecter Seat: The Phoenix vehicle has a built-in ejector seat which is handy in a pinch. The ‘Rejecter Seat’ cheat, however, makes it so that the player stays on the ground and the Phoenix is launched into the air.
The above cheats join the existing He’s On Fire cheat for all players. Senior Gameplay Programmer Peter Hastings also hinted at yet another cheat which causes exploding barrels to rain from the sky.
Bethesda’s post also reiterated numerous times that all cheats will be available to all players. They’ll be available for purchase from a special mutant merchant called the Wandering Wizard using in-game currency. However, purchasing certain editions/versions of Rage will instantly unlock specific cheats right from the start:
- Pre-ordering any edition of Rage 2 instantly unlocks the He’s On Fire cheat.
- Rage 2’s Deluxe Edition has three additional cheats enabled from the start. What those cheats are isn’t disclosed in Bethesda’s post.
Lastly, Bethesda hinted that more cheats will be added to Rage 2 as post-launch DLC. Players will be able to try the cheats out for themselves when Rage 2 launches on May 14. Those who pre-order the game will also gain access to an exclusive mission and gear set.
