Rainbow Six Siege’s New Bug Hunter Program Has A Suitably Goofy Reward

Hunting down and squashing code-based bugs in a game is often a thankless job. However, in Rainbow Six Siege, it’s no longer a reward-less one. Thanks to Siege’s newly launched Bug Hunter Program, dedicated bug-hunters can earn a unique reward for their efforts.

According to this blog post from Ubisoft, the Bug Hunter Program is a way to incentivize active bug discovery. The program utilizes Siege’s existing public test server, which sadly means it’s only available to PC players.

To participate in the program, all players have to do is find bugs in the PTS and report them. This reporting process is handled by the R6Fix service, a service Ubisoft implemented last year. Once a user submits a bug report, Siege’s QA team will attempt to replicate the bug using the information provided. If the bug can be replicated, it’s labeled as an acknowledged bug, with credit given to the reporting player.

Some additional criteria also needs to be met for a player to receive credit for an acknowledged bug:

  • The issue in the report must be clearly explained in English
  • Visual evidence such as a screenshot or video clip must be provided with each report
  • Credit will only be given to the first person to report the bug

If a single player receives credit for three separate acknowledged bugs, they’ll earn a very special (and appropriate) reward. The ‘Raptor Legs’ Frost charm pays tribute to a somewhat-infamous bug from Siege’s early days. Back then, a known bug would cause an operator’s legs to awkwardly face backwards while they were crouching. This painful-looking reverse-legs posture was soon dubbed as the raptor legs bug. The bug has long since been squashed, but it’s nice to see Ubisoft poking some fun at itself.

Ubisoft says more rewards will be added to the Bug Hunt Program over time to further encourage active players. In other Rainbow Six Siege news, the game’s Operation Burnt Horizon update is still trucking along. Ubisoft is also prepping major changes for Lion and Capitao in an upcoming update.
