Realm Royale Officially Announced for PS4 and Xbox One, Closed Beta Begins Next Week

As if we didn’t have enough Battle Royale games already, Realm Royale has been officially announced for PS4 and Xbox One. If you aren’t aware of this take on the Battle Royale craze, it is from Hi-Rez Studios, the developer of Paladins and Smite. Both of those games are successful twists on popular games already out; Overwatch and League of Legends respectively.

Realm Royale is the next in that line, this time emulating the success and style of Fortnite. It has already arrived on PC very recently and will be making its way to consoles soon. Like the PC version, there will be a closed beta for the PS4 and Xbox One versions very soon. And by soon, we mean next week. You can sign up for the closed, invite-only beta right now.

For those who don’t know, Realm Royale actually originally started out as Paladins: Battlegrounds; a Battle Royale spin-off of Hi-Rez Studios’ hero shooter. It was later rebranded and shifted to become its own game, but it does retain the feel and look of its predecessor. Considering Paladins just recently came to Nintendo Switch in what is a surprisingly great port, this Battle Royale title could potentially come to the hybrid console as well.

However, we suspect that Realm Royale would most likely come to Nintendo Switch later on down the road. After all, Hi-Rez Studios’ other title, Smite, has yet to arrive on the console just yet. You can test out the Hi-Rez’s take on Battle Royale beginning next week.

It features a similar map and style to Fortnite, but with the addition of classes, powers, and the ability to craft weapons and armor. We played it at E3 and enjoyed it even if it was still a little wonky. You can sign up for the closed beta next week right here.
