Operation Apocalypse Z is certainly bringing a lot of new content to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, including no less than three multiplayer maps. However, perhaps one of the most significant new releases is the new Operation Apocalypse Z Specialist; Reaper. This heavily-armoured robot is outfitted for suppression and assault with a jamming device and heavy machine gun.
The New Operation Apocalypse Z Specialist – Reaper
Fans of the Black Ops series will likely recognise Reaper, the new Operation Apocalypse Z Specialist. After all, the robot was a Specialist in Call of Duty: Black Ops III! In the series’ fourth instalment, Reaper comes with a unique piece of Special Equipment called the Radar Shroud. Similar to Recon’s Sensor Dart but in reverse, the Shroud prevents nearby enemies from using parts of their mini-map. “The use case for this is clear,” writes Treyarch; “stealth and deception. The Radar Shroud can be very useful during objective play to conceal your team’s assault or confuse and disorient the enemy. […] Consider equipping Dead Silence to height the effectiveness of the Shroud.”
Of course, the Radar Shroud is just one aspect of Reaper’s play-style. The other is relentless and devastating firepower. Reaper comes armed with the Scythe. While this weapon was an arm-mounted minigun in Black Ops III, in 4 it is instead a massive double-barrelled heavy machine gun. “It’s a heavy-duty suppressive fire hose,” says Treyarch; “Any player near the flight paths of these bullets will have their hearing and vision disoriented due to the high calibre lead zipping past.”
All told, Reaper is an interesting addition to the Black Ops 4 roster. His greatest strength comes from disorientation; use the Shroud to hide the approach of you and your team, before launching a devastating shock-and-awe surprise attack with the Scythe! “No matter how you use Reaper,” concludes Treyarch; “it is a uniquely appealing pick among the Specialist pack and is a tough soldier to pass up on for your squad.”
