Rumor: Release Dates for PS5 and Xbox Series X Revealed

We know that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will release during the holiday 2020 launch window, likely during November. Indeed, Sony recently confirmed that it is on target for the holiday release window. But what are the specific release dates? Sony and Microsoft have yet to announce them. But there is a rumor that the release dates for PS5 and Xbox Series X were revealed inadvertently through multiple sources.

Were the Release Dates for PS5 and Xbox Series X Revealed?

VGC originated the rumor in a detailed analysis of potential release dates with the input of “development and retail sources.” Speaking about Xbox, VGC writes, “Microsoft has told developers to plan towards a launch in the very first week of the November, we understand, which would also give it wiggle room to potentially slip into the second week and still launch ahead of Sony. Xbox sources indicated that the platform holder is also expecting PS5 to arrive within the week commencing November 13.

The 13th is a Friday, which is consistent with typical console release days. So, if PS5 does release on the 13th, the most logical Xbox Series X release date would be the prior Friday, which is the 6th.

Gamers should take note that these two dates are still just guesswork. While they seem to make a lot of sense, there is no reason the two consoles could not come out on other days of the week. It is also not impossible that either both could release a week or two later.

It probably won’t be long now before we can pre-order the PS5 and the Xbox Series X. Retailers already have pages set up for the two consoles, but no one is taking pre-orders yet.
