Resident Evil 2: How to Unlock the Magnum/SMG Weapon Locker

Throughout the Resident Evil 2 story campaign, protagonists Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield both acquire an arsenal of powerful weaponry. However, said weapon loadouts aren’t exactly the same, and that’s because different weapons spawn in specific spots for each character. In this guide, we’ll show you how to unlock a mid-game weapon locker. For Leon, the locker contains the powerful magnum handgun while Claire gets the compact yet deadly SMG.

Locating the magnum/SMG locker actually isn’t that difficult. On the second floor of the RPD Station is a room containing the S.T.A.R.S. offices. Along with some clever callbacks to the original Resident Evil, the S.T.A.R.S offices also contain the weapon locker in question. However, much like the shotgun/grenade launcher weapon locker, the S.T.A.R.S. locker is blocked off by an electronic door.

To open the locker door, you first have to solve a few item-based puzzles. Keep playing through the game until you come back up to the RPD Station from the parking garage.  By this point you should have the items needed to access the station’s interrogation room on the first floor. Inside the interrogation room you’ll find a jeweled box.

To open the box you need to solve the puzzle in the Art Room on the station’s second floor. Solving the Art Room puzzle requires grabbing the red book from the Library. Head to the Art Room and combine the book with the statue arm on the table. Then place the arm holding the book into the statue proper. The statue will release the scepter it’s holding in its other hand. Examine the scepter to remove the jewel from its head. Combine the jewel with the jeweled box and you’ll receive and RPD badge.

Examine the badge and you’ll discover it’s actually a cleverly-disguised USB stick. Head back up to the S.T.A.R.S. office, place the USB stick into the weapon locker computer, and the door will unlock. And now, all that’s left to do is enjoy your snazzy new weapon!
