Respawn Entertainment Celebrates Their 10 Year Anniversary

As Apex Legends enters its fifth season, developer Respawn has been celebrating their studio’s ten-year anniversary. The anniversary comes after one of Respawn’s most successful years ever in 2019; a year which saw the highly successful releases of both Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Respawn Entertainment’s 10th Anniversary

“It’s been incredible to watch Respawn and the talented group of people continue to grow, from the initial first-person multiplayer shooter team to something that is much more today,” writes Respawn head & co-founder Vince Zampella; “[…] If last year is any testament, we plan to continue delivering great new games for our fans to enjoy for years to come. 2019 was one of the most memorable yet, starting with the launch of Apex Legends in February through to the reveal of Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond and the release of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.”

2019 certainly saw a major resurgence for Respawn Entertainment, after the launch of Titanfall 2 back in 2017. Titanfall 2 received critical acclaim from reviewers at launch. However, it was let down by EA’s decision to release the game in-between both Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and EA’s own Battlefield 1. As a result, sales of the game were well below expectations, and this poor launch seemingly killed the Titanfall franchise. (At least for the time being.) Although Apex Legends does share the Titanfall setting, it is nonetheless a very different game with its own distinct style.

Respawn Entertainment 10 Year Anniversary

In his message to staff and fans for the 10th anniversary, Zampella did mention that Titanfall; “is near and dear to everyone here at Respawn,” but didn’t mention any potential future plans for the series. (It’s currently unknown if Respawn has any plans to revive Titanfall.) However, given the success of both Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, those two franchises are likely to remain Respawn’s focus for the time being. Hopefully, that means fans can look forward to a Fallen Order sequel, sometime in the next couple of years. Meanwhile, Apex Legends is now into its fifth season, introducing new gameplay mechanics and features like Season Quests.
