Rumor: Physical Standalone Far Cry 3 Classic Edition Coming From Ubisoft?

Ubisoft announced its calendar of post-launch content for Far Cry 5 shortly after the game released. Alongside the three planned DLC packs, Ubisoft also announced a “Classic Edition” of Far Cry 3. This Classic Edition would be available to download for those who bought Far Cry 5’s season pass or Gold Edition. While the studio hinted at a later standalone release date, they only confirmed as much more recently.

Originally released in 2012, Far Cry 3 was available on PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. The new Classic Edition can be downloaded for free by anyone who purchased Far Cry 5’s season pass or Gold Edition. The game will become available on the 29th of May. Following speculation as to whether it would become available on its own, Ubisoft recently announced that the remastered title will become available as a standalone purchase on consoles on June 26th. However, the company did not clarify whether the game will remain a purely digital release or not. The version available to Far Cry 5 season pass and Gold Edition owners is purely digital, after all.

Now, it seems that a possible leak may have answered that question. A New Zealand-based online gaming retailer by the name of Mighty Ape recently published a listing for a physical copy of Far Cry 3’s Classic Edition. Retailer leaks are nothing new. Listings often get accidentally posted too early. Some retailers may even do so intentionally in order to draw attention to the upcoming release at their website. Of course, such leaks do not always prove to be accurate. Sometimes, listings such as these are incorrect or outdated. Fans hoping for a physical release of Far Cry 3 Classic Edition should thus take this with a pinch of salt.

A physical release of the remastered game would not be especially surprising. Far Cry 3 was a huge success when it released in 2012, and still has a strong fan-base among gamers. While new data revealed by Ubisoft showed that over 50% of Far Cry 5’s sales were digital, a lot of gamers still prefer physical purchases.
