Rumor: Multiplayer Mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Could Be a Lot Like Overwatch

Lately we’ve been hearing a lot of rumors about the game modes for COD: Black Ops 4. The latest one could be good news or bad—depending on your feelings about Overwatch.

Referencing Twitter user Matt Harris, Charlie Intel recently reported that the multiplayer mode in Black Ops 4 could be a lot like Overwatch. Matt Harris claims that this information comes directly from sources who were able to participate in a play-test of the game. You can view the tweet in question here.

Harris did say that the testers were not impressed by this Overwatch-styled play, and that in response, the developers are looking at taking a different tact “beginning to resemble more and more the state of the game in Black Ops 3.”

None of this is encouraging—unless of course you are a massive Overwatch fan who wants everything in the world to play like Overwatch. But most gamers who want to play Overwatch choose to play Overwatch. When they buy a Call of Duty game, they want it to play like Call of Duty.

One would think that franchise developers would have learned their lesson by now, considering that COD has struggled in the past to hang onto its identity.

Regardless, all of this is pure rumor at this point—we have no way to verify it. Let’s just hope that Black Ops 4 retains its uniqueness and gives us the COD experience we are clambering for.

Black Ops 4 is scheduled for release on October 12th. The official community reveal event is slated for May 17th. Stay tuned for more updates as they unfold!
