RuneScape Ernest The Chicken Guide

Old School RuneScape is here on mobile, which means a lot of new players are joining. As an old-school player of RuneScape myself, I was pretty stoked and I too, jumped in on the fun – eager to get back to the world and quests I had loved so much as a child. One quest, in particular, stood out for me as I played: Ernest the Chicken.

Ernest the Chicken is a short, simple quest that takes place not that far away from Draynor Manor. It’s not exactly a hard quest, but you’ll need to be, at the very least, Level 20. But of course, your efforts will be rewarded with some great loot, XP and that smug feeling of superiority.

As for me? Well, I’ll be helping you gain all that and more.

The first thing you’ll want to do is head over to a lady named Veronica. She’s not hard to miss, as she’s just south of Draynor Manor, by the gate. She’ll be in a blue dress, and looking worried. Once speaking to her, you’ll find out she’s worried about her fiance, Ernest. He went into the big, spooky mansion up ahead and hasn’t returned since – understandably making her worry.

Enter the manor and climb up the staircase that you find, head west and you’ll find an old man called Professor Oddenstein. He’ll explain to you that Ernest, for some reason or other, decided to ditch asking for directions and instead help him with an experiment. Only it went terribly wrong and now, for some reason or other, he’s a chicken.

Not to worry! There’s still a way to help him change back. You’ll need to find an oil can, a pressure gauge, and a rubber tube for the Professor so he can get his machine to work again.

Pressure Gauge

First, the pressure gauge. For this, you’ll need fish food, which you can find on the first floor in a blue box, and poison. Mix them together, then head over towards the fountain outside of the manor, and pour the poisoned fish food into the water. There you’ll discover that there was a ton of piranha in there. No worries, you’ll now have the pressure gauge.

Rubber Tube

I hope you have a spade, because you’re going to need it. Outside of the manor, head to the west side of the grounds. Interact with the compost heap with the spade, you’ll find a key. Go back into the manor, through the front entrance. Now if you remember, you’ll have come across a room with a skeleton locked inside a cell. Unfortunately for you, that’s where the rubber tube is. Unlock the door and either fight the skeleton or dodge and grab the tube before making your escape.

Oil Can

Now, this is where it gets tricky. Go to the ground floor, and head west. You’ll find a room with a bookcase, which you need to search. Once searched, you’ll gain access to a secret room with a ladder inside. Head down and you’ll see multiple levers, along with multiple doors. Through the door straight ahead, you’ll see the oil can.

Read these instructions from the RuneScape Wiki for further details.

Once you’ve got the oil can, head back to Professor Oddstein and give yourself a clap on the back. The quest is finished.
