Sea of Thieves’ Forsaken Shores Expansion is now Live

After a brief delay pushed its launch back by about a week, Sea of Thieves’ Forsaken Shores expansion has finally arrived, bringing with it a dangerous new in-game region, useable rowboats, new cosmetic items, and more.

Sea of Thieves players can now enter the Forsaken Shores.

The major highlight of the Forsaken Shores expansion is undoubtedly the new Devil’s Roar region, a volatile new biome whose hallmarks include fire, ash, active volcanoes, rock storms, and, of course, plenty of lava. Players will have to be on high alert when venturing through the Devi’s Roar and it’s likely for that very reason why the biome can’t be used as an initial spawn point, those who want to explore the new region will have to sail into it willingly. Fortunately, the inclusion of rowboats should help players more easily navigate between their ship and any landmasses they find.

Other miscellaneous facts about the Forsaken Shores expansion include the following:

  • Krakens and Megaladons can spawn in the Devil’s Roar region, and a future update will allow the Cursed Sails expansion’s Skeleton Ships to appear as well.
  • Forsaken Shores comes with a new story campaign for players to partake in if they want to really immerse themselves.
  • A new ‘Cargo Run’ mission type has been added for the Merchant Alliance faction. These missions involve transporting cargo while ensuring it isn’t damaged, a risky prospect given how many hazards the Devil’s Roar region contains.
  • A single rowboat can hold several players at once (or one player and a couple barrels of explosives)
  • Developer Rare has decided to move away from time-locked achievements since it doesn’t want Sea of Thieves players to feel like they’re missing out if they can’t consistently log in.
  • In-game hints suggest that a new item type, potions, will be added in a future game update.

Sea of Thieves players can download and play the Forsaken Shores expansion right now. Rare is also already working on additional expansions, ensuring that the studio’s unique pirating world will continue to grow and evolve.
