If you ever thought that Sea of Thieves would make for a great tabletop game, you’re clearly not alone. Board game publisher Mongoose Publishing has confirmed it’s teaming up with Rare for an official Sea of Thieves tabletop adaptation. Even better, Mongoose is offering a sweet physical boxed set which includes plenty of extra goodies.
Sea of Thieves Tabletop RPG Adaptation
According to the tabletop adaptation’s webpage, it will contain a pretty similar experience to the Sea of Thieves video game. Players will hunt for buried treasure, battle enemies like skeletons and the Kraken, and work alongside various mercantile factions.
The tabletop adaptation will also utilize a unique Avast gameplay system. This system will streamline gameplay and encourage friendly roleplaying during each Sea of Thieves tabletop adventure. It also sounds like the Avast system will allow for both cooperative and competitive gameplay scenarios.
Fans who want to give the Sea of Thieves tabletop adaptation a try have two options to pick from. A digital PDF which contains all of the game’s core rulebooks is available now for about $40. If you don’t mind waiting a bit, though, there’s also the pricier physical boxed set which costs about $80. The boxed set won’t start shipping out until October of this year, but when it arrives you’ll get the following:

Lastly, if you just want the physical Legendary Dice as a cool collectible, they’re available standalone for about $23. As for the Sea of Thieves video game, Rare says it will continue improving and expanding the experience throughout 2019. In fact, the studio just recently reduced the game’s total install file size.
