Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice – How to Beat the Chained Ogre Boss

One of the very first bosses you’ll encounter in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is the massive Chained Ogre. This hulking brute can kick, slam, and smash you into an early grave if you’re not prepared. Fortunately, there is a way to make the fight noticeably easier, though it requires a little side-tracking.

As you might know if you eavesdrop on the two guards near the Ogre’s location, it fears fire. There just so happens to be a Flame Vent tool for your Shinobi Prosthetic, but finding it takes some work. On your way to the Ogre you might have passed an old woman in a small house. Speaking to the woman and pretending to be her son awards a Buddhist Charm item. Use the charm at the Buddhist Statue near the Sculptor and you’ll be teleported to the Hirata Estate area.

Make your way through the Hirata Estate and you’ll eventually reach an enemy camp just before a bamboo forest. In a campfire in the middle of the camp is the Flame Vent tool. The Flame Vent only works in close quarters but hitting the Ogre with it stuns the creature for several seconds. If you throw oil on the Ogre first you can also light him on fire, dealing damage over time.

Even with the Flame Vent the Chained Ogre fight isn’t exactly easy. The main attacks you need to watch out for are his grabs since they’ll often one-shot you if they connect. His strikes and kicks hit hard as well, but they’re easier to avoid as long as you keep your distance.

Avoiding the Ogre’s powerful attacks can be tough, but the Flame Vent robs him of his otherwise strong offensive momentum. Avoid his attacks, stun him when you can, and keep the pressure on to fell the beast.
