Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice – How to Beat the Folding Screen Monkeys

After venturing through Sekiro’s Senpou Temple area, you’ll eventually reach a location called the Illusory Hall. Here, you’ll face one of the game’s more unusual boss fights: the Folding Screen Monkeys. This diminutive foursome functions in a slightly different manner than traditional boss encounters, but they can still be beaten. In this guide, we’ll explain how to overcome the trial of the Folding Screen Monkeys.

Sekiro: Besting the Folding Screen Monkeys

Sekiro Folding Screen Monkeys

There are four monkeys in total, each of which represents a quarter of their total health gauge. The monkeys won’t attack you directly, but their unique traits make them hard to pin down. They can also summon spectral minions who *will* attack you and inflict Terror status with their hits.

Your ultimate goal is to sneak up on and kill each monkey. The trick is that they each sport unique traits which must be circumvented to get close to them. If you need to “reset” the monkeys’ position, you can use the bell you received upon arrival in the hall.

Below, we’ve detailed each monkey and how to kill them:

See No Evil Monkey (Purple Kimono)

This is the monkey you’ll spot when you first enter the Illusory Hall. He can see from great distances and thus is very hard to sneak up on out in the open. However, north of the central Illusory Hall platform is a large dark building. You can grapple up to the building’s inner rafters to find a hallway completely obscured in darkness. Chasing the monkey up to that dark hallway negates his sight, allowing for an easy kill.

Hear No Evil Monkey (Green Kimono)

This monkey has excellent hearing which means he’ll know you’re coming even if his back is turned. To the left of the central Illusory Hall platform is a room with a large waterfall in it. Chase the monkey into that room and its hearing will be drowned out, allowing for an easy kill.

Speak No Evil Monkey (Orange Kimono)

This monkey is actually not too hard to sneak up on as long as you approach from behind or above. In fact, you’ll want to eliminate this one first since he’ll shriek loudly if he spots you. Those shrieks can in turn send the other monkeys scattering.

Invisible Monkey (White Kimono)

While you’re hunting the other three monkeys, keep an eye out for yellow footprints appearing near your position. Those footprints reveal the invisible monkey’s position, allowing you to move in for the kill. You can also use the Shinobi Firecracker to stun the monkey, preventing it from fleeing.
