Fallout 76 Side Quests: How to Complete An Organic Solution

If you often have trouble with radiation in Fallout 76, and you find that Rad-X just isn’t doing enough, then you may want to learn how to make RadShields. These consumable items are much more effective than Rad-X, but learning how to make them is quite a task. You’ll need to complete the Fallout 76 An Organic Solution side-quest, which you can start at Ella Ames’ Bunker on the northern side of The Mire.

How to Complete Fallout 76 An Organic Solution Side-Quest

When you approach Ella Ames’ Bunker, you should acquire the miscellaneous quest, “Investigate Ella’s Bunker,” which is the first step on this quest. There, you can access Ella’s terminal. Select the “Research Studies” topic, and then the “RadShield” topic, and you should start the “An Organic Solution” quest. Now that you know about RadShields, you need to acquire Ella’s research, and this isn’t in the bunker. You need to leave the bunker and head north until you reach the Southampton Estate. You can find the body of Ella Ames on the upper floor; recover her Research Holotape here.

Once you have the Holotape, read through the topics and select “Install Radio Tracking” under the “Tracking Bone Meal” option; this will give you a new radio signal called Radiation Signal Tracker. To track the ingredients in An Organic Solution, watch the signal strength of the tracking signal. It should go up as you head in the right direction.

Gathering the Ingredients for a RadShield

The first ingredient you need is Bone Meal. From Southampton Estate, head southeast toward the Crevasse Dam. Unfortunately, the Bone Meal you need is in a Deathclaw nest on the west bank of the lake. As such, you should probably use stealth, unless you feel confident enough to take on Deathclaws yourself! Once you acquire the Bone Meal from the nest, you can move on to the rest of the ingredients.

Next on your list is Nitrogen, which can be found south of the Deathclaw nest in the Dyer Chemical building. On the north side of the building, go up to the second floor and search the offices. One should contain the Nitrogen you need. The remaining two ingredients are also found at Dyer Chemical. At the back of the building is a blue truck which is open at the back; climb in and retrieve the Potassium. Finally, in a small structure which is on the building’s southwest corner, you can recover a canister of Phosphorous.

Now that you have all four ingredients, go up to the third floor of Dyer Chemical. Here you can find a terminal where the Bone Meal can be inserted. After selecting “Confirm,” choose the “Flush” option, which will release the Bone Meal as fertiliser into the nearby river. Once this is done, leave Dyer Chemical and go down to the river. You should now be able to find a few Strangler Blooms growing on trees along the edges of the river which are glowing. With this final ingredient you can head to a Chemistry Station (one will be marked by the quest) and craft your first RadShield!

RadShields make for an excellent upgrade to Rad-X. Although they increase your thirst a little, they are roughly three times as effective as Rad-X for resisting radiation. This makes them perfect for venturing into nuclear fallout zones or other areas of especially high radiation.
