The Telltale Games story keeps on going. Following the massive layoffs at Telltale Games two weeks ago, Skybound, the parent company of the Walking Dead, is stepping in to finish the final season of Telltale’s final season of the Walking Dead. Among the many problems is they haven’t gotten all the original team members yet (via GamesIndustry.biz).
On Reassembling the Team
Skybound president Dan Murrey had this to say regarding the Telltale Games situation:
“We are doing our best to take care of the people. Our intent is to work with the original team but there are a lot of moving parts. I don’t want to get in the specifics around the deal itself, but I will say this: We are doing everything we can to do right by the people making the game. There’s not a huge upside for the corporate entity at Telltale Games.”
“This has nothing to do with Telltale Games and everything to do with the people involved in ‘The Walking Dead’ game and trying to take care of them in the meantime the best way we can. That’s the process we are in: Save the game for the fans and provide at least a runway to the team as we finish off the game. This has everything to do with the people who are making the game, and the fans.”
It’s likely that the employment of the original developers wouldn’t be long-term. Once the final two Walking Dead episodes are finished, Telltale would most likely shut down for good. It’ll be interesting to see if any of the original development team will come back. Following the layoffs, reports came out of poor management and lack of severance pay among other things.
