Skyrim VR is the Most Played Title on PlayStation VR

The PlayStation Blog recently released a celebratory article to mark the sale of 3 million PlayStation VR systems sold. Among the information discussed was included a list of the top 10 most played PSVR titles. Interestingly, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR took the top spot as the most played game, displacing other major VR titles.

The Most Played PlayStation VR Games

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR was released late last year, alongside Fallout 4 VR and Doom VFR. The release was one of the largest VR title releases ever in what is still a very niche area of the gaming market. As a result, it’s not surprising to see the game on the top 10 list. What might be more surprising is that the title beat out other older VR titles like Job Simulator; titles which helped to pioneer the latest generation of VR. Note that the chart is based on amount of time played, not game sales.

Skyrim VR Has Outperformed Titles Like Job Simulator to be the Most Played PSVR Title

The chart might well indicate the poor re-playability of many VR titles. Because very few major developers have committed to developing for VR, most VR games are not high-budget titles. As such, while games like Job Simulator are technically interesting and a fun experience the first time; these games rarely have much re-playability. On the other hand, Skyrim VR includes the entirety of Skyrim, one of the biggest RPG releases of the last decade. Far more people could have played Job Simulator thanks to its accessibility and earlier release date. However, the people who played Skyrim VR may well have played far more of the title by comparison.
