Sledgehammer Games Co-Founder Departs Activision This Month

Though Call of Duty fans have a lot to be happy about with the release of update 1.09 and Operation Absolute Zero, we have some bittersweet news, too. The Sledgehammer Games co-found Glen Schofield will be departing the developer and Activision at the end of this month. Schofield announced the news today on his personal Twitter account. There is no official press release currently.

Thankfully, it seems that the Sledgehammer Games co-founder is leaving Activision of his own free will. Schofield notes in his announcement that he feels like it’s time to try something new. But first, he will be taking off some time to relax and take a break from game development before trying whatever that new thing is. You can find his full quote from Twitter below.

Glen Schofield Leaves Activison

“I’ve had a great run here at Activision; 3 COD’s- MW3, AW and WWll- that I’m proud of. I feel it’s time to try something new tho. I’ll be leaving Activision end of Dec. and taking some time off to relax. Then off to something else exciting.
Thank u Activision for everything!”

As noted in his tweet above, Schofield is best known for founding the developer Sledgehammer Games. This came after departing Visceral Games and working on the original Dead Space alongside fellow co-found Michael Condrey. Despite being around since 2009, the developer has worked on the aforementioned three COD titles: Modern Warfare 3, Advanced Warfare, and World War II.

Schofield was notably promoted earlier this year to work with the corporate division of Activision. It remains to be seen what new, “exciting” thing that he will be working on in the future will be. Could it be a video game or something else? Will he go independent or join a different studio? Be sure to check back when he reveals that info. In the meantime, we wish Schofield the best in his future endeavors.
