Sombra is Getting Infinite Stealth Mode in Upcoming Update

Overwatch’s newest update saw a complete Symmetra rework, as well as some buffs to other heroes such as Doomfist, Orisa and McCree. Now, Sombra is next in line for some exciting tweaks come July’s patch.

In the most recent patch, Doomfist’s Meteor Strike got a bonus movement speed increase from 150 percent to 200 percent, while his The Best Defense passive ability got a shield gain increase from 30 to 35.

“The increased movement speed on Meteor Strike gives Doomfist new options in how and where to deploy it,” Blizzard wrote in the patch notes. “His passive is also being increased, allowing him to survive more often when diving into enemies.”

Orisa’s buff was simple: her ultimate has decreased 15 percent in cost, allowing her to build up to the Supercharger ultimate a little bit quicker.

Meanwhile, McCree’s Deadeye now has a range of 200 meters, up from 70.

Now, it seems hacker extraordinaire Sombra is next in line for a buff. Last week, Overwatch developer Jeff Kaplan posted to the game’s forum hinting at “significant” changes coming to the offense hero in July. Now, Geoff Goodman let the cat out of the bag on the game’s forum.

Blizzard is granting Sombra with complete control over when she reveals herself from stealth mode. That’s right: infinite stealth. Translocator has also become an infinite ability and she can now destroy the translocator if she needs to move it.

“It allowed her to play more and more as a scout/infiltrator for your team and also allowed her more time to pick and choose when and where she popped out to ambush her enemies,” Goodman wrote. “Now she has infinite duration on both Stealth and Translocator.”

Players will be able to destroy the translocator by looking at it and pressing the interact key. Stealth’s speed boost has also been lowered from 75 to 50 percent, for balance purposes.

“These changes are really interesting for her as now she is in complete control over when she reveals herself, allow her to time her hacks better for her team, or go for a back line ambush during a critical moment in a team fight,” Goodman wrote.

Sombra is an interesting case, as she has been nerfed and buffed on a few different occasions since her addition to the game. The Mexican hacker was once a formidable DPS hero that could be played with support in mind, but her usefulness there was nerfed back in February.

The February update was meant to buff her Hack ability, but Sombra was again nerfed in March. That nerf forced Sombra players to be a bit more picky with their Hack targets.

Sombra has also been known, perhaps ironically, to have a lot of bugs, including bugs with her Translocator and with her Hack ability.

The update is expected to hit the Overwatch PTR soon. However, neither Goodman nor Kaplan said whether these issues will be fixed in Sombra’s upcoming adjustments.
