Sony Banned Thousands of Users for PS Plus Collection Violations

Perhaps the oldest rule in the book is that the moment a new feature rolls out, someone will find a way to exploit it for a quick buck. That is exactly what has been happening with the PlayStation Plus Collection. And now, Sony is catching on. Sony banned thousands of users who are exploiting a share feature in order to sell access to their PS Plus Collection games to PS4 gamers.

Sony Banned Thousands of Users Who Exploited the PS Plus Collection

Here is a tweet from zhihuwong that talks about the bans:

The text says, “Thousands of PSN accounts have been banned, and according to community discussions, these accounts are concentrated in HK(@PlayStationHK

), and have in common the receipt of Sony’s PS Collection service for PS Plus, which contains serveral PS4 games for free.”

Here is what is happening. If you have a PS Plus subscription on PS5, you have access to the PS Plus Collection. Currently, the Collection includes games like God of War, Fallout 4, and The Last of Us Remastered. You can log into another console—including a PS4 console—and download the games to that console. Hypothetically, you can use this feature to access your collection on multiple home consoles, or to share with a friend.

But what some PS5 users have been doing is using this feature to make money. They have been getting on Ebay and other sites and selling their PS Plus Collection access to PS4 users. Obviously, this was not Sony’s intention. As a result, they have been banning offenders.

Needless to say, don’t do this, or there will be consequences. If you just want to log into one or two other devices over a period of weeks or months, it seems unlikely anything bad will come of it. But if you are logging into tons of devices in quick succession, Sony is likely going to drop the ban hammer on you.
