Sony Updates PS5 Page with Game Boost Feature Reference

Planning on playing PS4 and PS VR games on your PlayStation 5 console? You will be excited to read the official description of the Game Boost Feature from Sony that is now on the official page for the console. Let’s take a look at what it says. That way, you know what to expect when you play PS4 games on your PS5.

What is the Game Boost Feature for PS5?

The description for the Game Boost Feature says, “Enjoy faster and smoother frame rates in select PS4 and PS VR games.” So, that is pretty self-explanatory. Some PS4 and PS VR games should play better on PS5 than they did on PS4. But note that it says “select” games. That means that this feature will not be available for every PS4 and PS VR game.

Which PS4 games will you be able to play on your PS5? There is no official list at this point, but 99% of games will be compatible. This suggests that for any given PS4 game you have in mind, it will almost certainly be playable on your PS5. Sony has yet to give a percentage for “select” games that the Boost feature will work for, however. So, it is hard to say how likely it is you will get to enjoy the increased frame-rate for any particular game. Will this feature be available for the majority of games? A minority of them?

As we draw closer to the release of the PlayStation 5 on November 12th, hopefully Sony will offer more details on backwards compatibility. Until then, we will just have to hope that all of our favorite PS4 games will work on our new systems.
