Square Enix Could Remake Dragon Quest III After Dragon Quest XII

Square Enix has revealed that there is a possibility of a Dragon Quest III Remake, but not until the 12th entry in the series is completed. This was revealed during the recent 38th annual meeting that the company had with its stockholders in Japan. This sort of meetings that publishers have typically reveal previously unknown information since stockholders need to know what’s coming next for the company.

This news was translated and caught by Siliconera. The possibility of a Dragon Quest III Remake was revealed by the series’ Producer Yu Miyake during the stockholder meeting. The question was posed where a stockholder inquired about the future of the series given the “plenty of talk about the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.” They wished to know if there were any plans to have an HD remake for the first or second game in the Dragon Quest series given it already passed its 30th anniversary.

Dragon Quest XI Switch Release Date

Miyake’s answer to the question is interesting, to say the least. Instead of addressing whether or not the first or second game in the series could get a remaster, he talked about a Dragon Quest III Remake. According to Miyake, he wants to make one but it can be “pretty tough to make a full-HD game” after his experiences with making XI. Oddly enough, the team considered doing a remake of III 4 or 5 years ago.

However, he believes they should “probably make Dragon Quest XII instead.” So, stealth announcement of that game? Though, it certainly makes sense given the popularity of XI on PS4 in Japan. Currently, Square Enix has no plans for any remakes in the series, but that doesn’t leave it out entirely. Miyake notes that it could happen “when the timing is right.” In the meantime, while we wait for more news regarding XII or a remake, we can look forward to Dragon Quest XI on PC, PS4, and eventually, Nintendo Switch.
