Stunning JRPG Octopath Traveler Receives Three-Hour Demo Today, Full Game Will Be 80-100 Hours Long

If you’ve been waiting for a huge JRPG to get lost in then Octopath Traveler may just be what your party healer ordered. Published by Square Enix, the game is a beautiful blend of eye-catching 16-bit SNES-style character sprites and textures, intermixed with modern high-definition environments and effects. Though a playable demo dropped for the game last September, a brand-new demo is out today on Nintendo Switch in North America, with other territories following shortly after.

The new playable demo, which is officially dubbed the Octopath Traveler Prologue Demo, gives players the opportunity to play as all eight characters from the final game. These characters will all feature their own distinct and unique storylines, and the demo will allow you to see the beginnings of their adventures.

Only thing is, there’ll be a three-hour time limit, so you probably won’t be able to see all of the character’s origin stories. However, three hours should hopefully be enough time to wet your JRPG whistle and get accustomed to the title’s moment-to-moment mechanics. Thankfully, your time won’t be wasted, either, as your game’s save progress will carry over into the main game.

A Town In Octopath Traveler

Interestingly, during yesterday’s Nintendo Treehouse: Live presentation, Square Enix revealed that their upcoming painterly retro-modern JRPG will be very meaty and will feature a ton of content – the main campaign alone is 50-60 hours long, with additional side-quests bumping up the total play-time to a healthy 80-100 hours. If you’re after a game that delivers bang for your buck and is jaw-droppingly beautiful to boot, then Octopath Traveler should definitely be on your radar.

In other news regarding the Switch-exclusive RPG, Square Enix has confirmed that Acquire – Octopath Traveler’s developer – is dedicating its development efforts into Switch-only titles going forward.

Octopath Traveler is scheduled to launch worldwide exclusively for Nintendo Switch on July 13th.
