The Division 2: How to Trigger Rogue Status in the Dark Zone

Once you reach The Division 2’s endgame (and even before that), the Dark Zone is freely available to you. This unique PvPvE experience has some great rewards to offer, but those rewards are counterbalanced by heavy risks. Do-gooders have their place in the Dark Zone, but if you’d rather embrace the dark side, that’s also an option. In this guide we’ll explain how you can trigger Rogue status in The Division 2’s Dark Zone.

The Division 2 Dark Zone Rogue Status Activation

The Division 2 Rogue Status

In The Division, triggering Rogue status was pretty straightforward. Attack another player unprovoked or try to steal their loot from an extraction chopper and you immediately went Rogue. This, of course, led to some growing pains as it was a strictly binary switch. If a player accidently shot their friend during combat, for example, they’d have to wait out the subsequent Rogue timer.

For The Division 2 Ubisoft has reworked the Dark Zone’s Rogue system. You can still trigger Rogue status by attacking other players, but you must do so multiple times. Another way to trigger Rogue status on your own is through a unique button press. Depending on your platform, you can manually go Rogue by holding down a certain button:

  • Xbox One: Menu Button
  • PlayStation 4: Touchpad
  • PC: Shift + T or Shift + Z (depending on your keybinds setup)

Another thing to note is that there are different “levels” of Rogue status in The Division 2. If you’re constantly attacking and killing other players, you’ll quickly become a pretty big target. Behavior like hacking terminals and lock-picking Dark Zone Chests is frowned upon, but won’t make you wanted enemy number one. Also, any level of Rogue status costs you Dark Zone XP if you’re killed, so keep that in mind.

There are benefits to going Rogue even if you’re not interested in ganking other players. Complete enough Rogue actions and you can unlock special Rogue-only vendors who offer unique loot. Sometimes it does indeed pay to be bad, as long as you can survive long enough of course.
