Cyberpunk 2077 Patch Delayed to Late-March Following Cyber Attack

In the wake of a recent, major cyber-attack on CD Projekt, the studio has announced that the next planned Cyberpunk 2077 patch has been delayed. Originally due to launch in the last few days, the patch will now be coming in the “second half of March”. According to a recent report, this is directly due to the impact of the cyber attack.

The Next Cyberpunk 2077 Has Been Delayed

CD Projekt Red had originally planned to launch their next major Cyberpunk 2077 patch at the end of February; the latest update aimed at fixing the game’s many existing problems. However, this plan has since been upended. According to a recent post on social media, the studio had; “dearly wanted to deliver Patch 1.2 for Cyberpunk 2077 in the timespan detailed previously”. However, they went on to explain that; “the recent cuber attack on the studio’s IT infrastructure and extensive scope of the update mean this unfortunately will not happen.”

Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.2 Delayed to Late March 2

Patch 1.2 will reportedly be the biggest update to Cyberpunk 2077 yet. CD Projekt Red has said that it will go; “beyond any previous updates”. However, gamers will now have to wait until later this month to receive it. The studio did not go into detail in their recent post to explain the reasons behind the delay. (Beyond citing the cyber attack as the primary factor, of course.)

Although the studio has not said so publicly, a recent report by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier revealed that the cyber attack has had a devastating impact on the studio. His report details how developers were locked out of their work for two weeks after the hacker shut down the studio’s internal systems. With employees working from home due to the pandemic, they had no choice but to physically send their computers to the studio’s IT staff, to ensure that no malware had gotten into their machines. Given such conditions, it’s obvious why the patch had to be delayed.
