There’s a Brand New Game Mode in the Destiny 2 Warmind DLC

Destiny 2 is a fantastic game—just like its precursor. But like its forerunner, it has been plagued by a number of issues. When The Taken King expansion was released for Destiny, it not only brought new content to the game, but also helped to deal with some of these issues.

The result was a much better game. And now we are hopefully going to see the same thing with Destiny 2 and the Warmind DLC.

To help make sure that the expansion will meet fan expectations, Bungie invited a number of popular content creators to conduct playtesting for the DLC at the company’s Seattle studio.

Among those content creators is YouTuber Mesa Sean. Because Mesa Sean is bound by a nondisclosure agreement, there has been very little he has been able to reveal about Warmind, but he has mentioned that the DLC includes a new game mode, which he described as “definitely unique,” adding, “You’ve never played a game mode like this in any Destiny franchise and probably not in any other franchises.”

He also added that he “did not want to stop playing,” which seems to imply that the game mode is addictively fun.

Most gamers’ first thoughts will probably stray toward the Battle Royale mode made so popular by PUBG and Fortnite—and which is rumored to be on the way for both Battlefield 5 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

Mesa Sean has already stated however that the new mode is not Battle Royale. While Battle Royale is obviously a lot of fun, this may come as something of a relief since we would like to see something new and different with Destiny 2’s DLC.

Are there any hints as to what the game mode could actually be? There is perhaps one—this screenshot of a GameStop update:

Notice where it says, “Ascend the Deep Stone Crypt as you fight against increasingly powerful bosses in a new cooperative activity.”

This seems to describe a boss rush mode of some sort. Whether it is the same game mode which Mesa Sean has talked about or not is not known as this point—nor has Bungie made any official confirmation regarding the GameStop update.

With any luck, more details will emerge about the mode in the next few days. According to Mesa Sean, some aspects of his non-disclosure agreement are slated to expire any time now—and on April 24th, we can look forward to Bungie’s official reveal for Warmind. The DLC will be available to gamers everywhere on May 8th.
