Total War Saga: Troy Launches Tomorrow – Free for One Day Only

Total War Saga: Troy – the third installment of the Total War Saga series and its largest to date – will finally be launching tomorrow as an exclusive to the Epic Games Store. However, this exclusivity comes with an extremely good launch-day promotion; the game will be completely free if you download it during its first 24 hours!

How to Get Total War Saga: Troy for Free

Set during the Trojan War, Total War Saga: Troy actually features the oldest historical setting of any Total War game to-date. The game is also the largest entry thus far in the Saga series; a spin-off series of smaller historical titles which began with Thrones of Britannia. Like previous Saga titles, Troy is built on an existing game engine (that of Total War: Warhammer 2). However, it nonetheless features a range of new mechanics and improvements. (Including, for example, a larger diplomacy system more reminiscent of that from Total War: Three Kingdoms.)

Total War Saga: Troy was announced as an Epic Games Store exclusive two months ago to decidedly mixed reactions. These sorts of exclusivity deals rarely go down well among PC gamers, especially given that Total War has historically been a Steam-only franchise in recent years. However, much of that ill will has been assuaged with this unusual launch-day promotion. According to Creative Assembly, the deal with Epic is something of an experiment for them, and an opportunity to give something back to their community. (Since Epic is paying for the game to be free on launch day.)

Total War Saga Troy Free on Launch Day Tomorrow

The game will eventually come to Steam after roughly one year, sometime in the summer of 2021. In the meanwhile, Creative Assembly has already announced a roadmap for post-launch content. Alongside mod support, an Amazons DLC will be launching in September. This expansion will add an entire new faction to the game with two new playable heroes; Hippolyta and Penthesilea. That DLC will also be free on launch day for everybody who links their Epic Games Store and Total War Access accounts. After that, players can look forward to multiplayer launching in November, followed by an “Ajax & Diomedes” DLC shortly thereafter.
