Total War: Three Kingdoms Patch 1.4 Brings Four New Legendary Heroes

Mandate of Heaven, the next Total War: Three Kingdoms DLC, is due to launch on the 16th of January, in just a couple of days’ time. Alongside that DLC, and the Tao Qian FLC, Creative Assembly will also be releasing Total War: Three Kingdoms Patch 1.4.0. This free game update brings an array of bug-fixes, balance tweaks, and reworks, along with various new mechanics and units. Furthermore, it will be adding four new legendary characters to the game’s core campaign.

The New Legendary Characters in Total War: Three Kingdoms Patch 1.4.0

The Mandate of Heaven DLC will be adding 6 new playable warlords in their own campaign, which is set roughly ten years before the main game. Thanks to this addition, players will also be getting several new legendary characters for the core campaign, primarily characters from the new early campaign who are still alive ten years later. These characters won’t be playable warlords, but players will be able to recruit them in-game. Tao Qian, who is coming in an accompanying Free-LC, will also be a new playable warlord who is available in both the original and new campaigns.

Total War Three Kingdoms Patch 1.4 Adds New Legendary Characters 2

The first of the four new legendary characters is Lu Zhi, a famous scholar of the Han Empire. The tutor of both Liu Bei and Gongsun Zan, Lu Zhi was one of the leading generals who fought against the Yellow Turban Rebellion. Indeed, he will be one of the six new playable warlords featuring in Mandate of Heaven. He won’t be a playable warlord in the core campaign. However, he will nonetheless feature as a legendary character for players to encounter or recruit.

Another figure from the Yellow Turban Rebellion who will appear as a new legendary character is Huangfu Song. This Han Empire general was a friend of Lu Zhi and was later involved in Wang Yun’s plot to assassinate Dong Zhuo. He will also feature in Mandate of Heaven, but will appear as a character in the main game as well. The third and fourth new characters are both individuals who are already in the game. However, they are both people who don’t currently have unique appearances; Diao Chan and Xun Yu. The only way to recruit Diao Chan is to complete a key event chain while playing as Dong Zhuo. Xun Yu, meanwhile, can be recruited by Cao Cao via another event chain.

All four of these characters will become available in the main campaign for free when Patch 1.4 launches on the 16th of January. Note that Diao Chan will not initially be available for custom battles unless you have unlocked Dong Zhuo’s campaign.
