Total War: Three Kingdoms Patch Adds Gate Battles, New Heroes & More

In just a few days’ time, Creative Assembly will be launching The Furious Wild – the biggest DLC to date for Total War: Three Kingdoms. Alongside that DLC, which will bring the highly-anticipated Nanman faction to the game, the studio will also be rolling out a major Total War: Three Kingdoms patch. This free update will implement a range of improvements and new content, including gate battles and new characters.

Total War: Three Kingdoms Patch 1.6.0

The headline feature of Total War: Three Kingdoms Patch 1.6.0 is the Free-LC which is launching alongside The Furious Wild. This Free-LC adds Shi Xie to the game as a new playable character for the Han Empire, complete with unique faction mechanics. However, that’s just the start of the patch. The update will also be bringing a major front-end rework to the game, simplifying the campaign start menus significantly.

Patch 1.6.0 also features the first-ever map update for Total War: Three Kingdoms. With the introduction of the Nanman – the barbarian tribes of Southern China – the south-west portion of the game’s map has been significantly extended and redesigned. This includes entirely new regions and space for the many new factions. Additionally, new mountainous areas are now all across the map, so as to; “increase the number of strategic options available to defenders.”

Indeed, a major addition to the game in this patch which ties to the new mountains are Gate Pass Battles. In various strategic locations around the map, Creative Assembly have added new heavily-fortified settlements which serve as chokepoints in mountain passes. Attackers wanting to cross through the pass will have to fight their way through the Gate. Presumably, these settlements will be similar to the Elven Fortress Gates and Imperial Border Forts in Total War: Warhammer 2.

In addition to a wide range of bug-fixes, general improvements, and balance changes, Patch 1.6.0 also includes three new unique characters. The first is Wei Yan, a well-known warrior who served under Liu Bei. This new Champion has Reckless Strike, allowing him to deal high damage at the cost of lowering his own defences. Xun You, meanwhile, is a new Strategist character. He served Dong Zhuo during his rise to power, and was later involved in the plot to assassinate him. His Ancient Wisdom ability increases the vision range of his army. Finally, Li Ru is a new Vanguard character who was also an advisor to Dong Zhuo. His passive Hold Firm ability improves his Melee Evasion the longer he stays in melee combat.
