Ubisoft Launches A Revenue-Sharing Program For Rainbow Six Siege

To better help support teams competing in the Rainbow Six Pro League, Ubisoft has announced it is starting up a revenue-sharing program in which a portion of the proceeds generated from the sale of select in-game items will be donated both to the teams themselves and the Six Invitational 2019 prize pool.

According to a press release from Ubisoft, the revenue-sharing initiative, which is being referred to as the “Pilot Program,” will officially go into effect on June 11, the same day as the start of the Pro League Season 8, and will remain in effect for the entire duration of Seasons 8 and 9 (a period which will extend into May, 2019). During that time, all Rainbow Six Siege players will be able to purchase a series of new cosmetic weapon skins and weapon charms which are themed around both specific Pro League teams and the entire Pro League event.

In-game item purchases can help support Pro League teams.

When a player purchases an item, 30 percent of the revenue made from the item’s sale will either go towards the item’s associated team (if it’s a team-specific item), or split evenly between the Six Invitational 2019 prize pool and all 11 teams included in the program. The 11 teams that are being included in the Pilot Program are as follows:

  • PENTA Sports
  • Vitality
  • Evil Geniuses
  • Rogue
  • SK Gaming
  • Mousesports
  • FaZe Clan
  • Team Liquid
  • Immortals
  • FNATIC
  • Ninjas in Pyjamas

Ubisoft was careful to clarify that the program is being limited to just 11 teams during its pilot run, and that the ultimate plan is to expand the program so that it includes more teams over time. There is also potential for the program to eventually offer revenue-generating items beyond in-game cosmetics (such as real-world merchandise), but for the program’s first phase Ubisoft wants to stick solely to in-game purchases.

There is also a chance that paid Alpha Packs might one day help to support the Rainbow Six Siege Pro League as well, especially since Ubisoft has previously said they will definitely be making a return appearance someday. In the meantime, Siege fans who don’t care too much about the game’s e-sports happenings can enjoy the new Operation Para Bellum update that launched today.
