Ubisoft Offers Assassin’s Creed Unity For Free In Support Of Notre Dame
Just days ago the world watched in helpless shock and sadness as the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris burned. Spectators sang hymns at the church’s base, onlookers gasped as the iconic spire fell through the roof, and many wondered just how much of the eight-hundred-year-old monument would be left. Fortunately, much of the core structure was left intact, and several wealthy French and US citizens have already pledged millions in donations to help aid with necessary repairs, but this doesn’t change the unfortunate fact, however, that major pieces of history were still lost in the blaze. Ubisoft, the French developers behind Assassin’s Creed Unity, has offered to assist in the church’s rebuilding in the best way they know how.
Looking Toward The Future, Mourning The Past
Ubisoft is currently offering Assassin’s Creed Unity for free on PC, as well as donating half a million dollars to the Notre Dame’s reconstruction efforts. This move is clearly a love letter to the historic church and a passionate show of Parisian pride. This is by no means a moment to talk about the faults of Unity, but to recognize Ubisoft’s efforts to assist their country in a troubled time.
Additionally, it appears as though the publisher is offering refunds to those who may have purchased Assassin’s Creed Unity before this free offering went live. To the small few who bought the game between April 15 through 17, a full refund will be issued. Even though the size of that particular market must be minuscule at best, it’s still pleasant to see Ubisoft offer such a gesture.
