Witcher 3 Mod Project Shows Off Reworked HD Textures

The Witcher III: Wild Hunt was released back in 2015. CD Projekt Red has since released several updates aimed at improving the graphics or implementing new graphical supports. However, higher-end PCs are often capable of more than a game can muster when it comes to graphics, and at least one modder is seeking to cater to just that with a Witcher 3 Mod that features a hefty rework of the game’s textures.

The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project

The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project is a long-term mod project approaching the release of its 5.1 version. The mod is aiming to improve the graphics of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt in their entirety. In the words of the creator, HalkHoganPL“by reworking models and textures to better quality, preserving the original style.”

The Witcher 3 Mod Aims to Wholly Rework the Game's Textures

HalkHoganPL recently released several new comparison screenshots showcasing the new 5.1 textures. In an update, the mod creator stated; “Firstly sorry for the long delay with the release, but I want to rework a lot of stuff and polish up everything as best as possible. Unfortunately you need a lot of time and effort for this. But 5.1 will be definitely the biggest update ever and it will certainly make the game much more beautiful. Here are some new screenshots from 5.1: (everything is still WIP and it can slightly change).”

The last version of the HD Reworked Project, version 5.0, released earlier this year. The mod utilizes high-quality meshes, detailed textures, normal maps, and custom materials to rework the majority of the game’s textures and improve upon the original. At present, almost all rivers and streams, stone walls, wood objects, rooftops, and a whole assortment of other textures (including some animals) have been reworked, with more to come. According to HalkHoganPL, the mod requires a mininum 2GB VRAM to run smoothly. Similarly, using a GTX 970 or AMD R9 290X (or better) should prevent any drops of fps while playing.
