Phil Spencer Hints That Xbox Series X Will Be More Powerful Than PlayStation 5

You are no doubt caught up on the news that the Xbox Scarlett, now officially unveiled, will be called the Xbox Series X. Up until this point, we’ve mostly been hearing indications that the next gen Xbox console will be around as powerful as the PS5. But if Xbox head Phil Spencer’s latest comments ring true, the Xbox Series X will be more powerful than the PS5.

Spencer Believes Xbox Series X Will Be More Powerful Than PS5

Spencer said to GameSpot, “Our goal has always been to build the most powerful console we can, and I think we’re there. We like leading in power and performance and I feel like we’re going to be there again.”

So, being as the Xbox Series X will contain an AMD Ryzen Zen 2 CPU under the hood along with an NVME solid state drive and a GDDR6 SDRAM, it certainly seems like a plausible statement. As to the “again” part of the comment, that is clearly a reference to the Xbox One X, which beats out the PS4 Pro when it comes to power.

Of course, Spencer would need to actually know what the PS5 is bringing to the table to be sure that his console will be more powerful. But it is pretty clear from the way he phrased his comment that he is only making a statement about what he believes, not what he knows. Ultimately, however confident he may feel, he too is probably as curious as we are.

Being as he has made this comment, and also being as the Xbox Series X has at last been revealed, we have to wonder if Sony might comment soon as well. If Sony claims that they believe PS5 will be more powerful, it will be interesting to say the least. Don’t miss out on any updates on the console war as it heats up going into the New Year.
