Xbox Series X Quick Resume Works Even After a System Update

The other day, we reported that Phil Spencer shared a boatload of information about the Xbox Series X with the world at last. One of the features he revealed in his post was “Quick Resume.” With Quick Resume, you can rest your console and instantly jump back into your game state as you left it. But Microsoft’s Larry Hryb just revealed that Xbox Series X Quick Resume goes a lot further than that.

What Larry Hryb Reported About Xbox Series X Quick Resume

Hryb discussed Quick Resume during a Major Nelson podcast episode. As he explained, “One of the things that I was noticing when I was in the lab when I was playing it — I was switching back and forth just real quickly and seamlessly between games, but then I had to reboot because I had a system update. And then I went back to the game and went right back to it. So it survives a reboot. That’s amazing.”

Jason Ronald, director of program management at Xbox, also has described the feature, saying, “If I just want to have a quick gaming experience, I can instantly jump in have a great time, and then know that the next time I come back I’ll be right where I was.”

So, all told, this sounds to be a pretty amazing capability, and even cooler than we thought it would be.
