Cyberpunk 2077 Wins Five Different Awards at Gamescom 2020

Yesterday marked the end of Gamescom 2020, the first all-digital version of the annual gaming industry event. It also marked the announcement of the annual Gamescom awards, with categories ranging from Best Ongoing Game to Best Presentation/Trailer, among other things. Cyberpunk 2077 proved to be the clear winner, with no less than five awards going to the upcoming title.

Cyberpunk 2077 Dominates at the Gamescom Awards

The biggest win for Cyberpunk 2077 at the 2020 Gamescom Awards was the highly-coveted ‘Best of Gamescom’ award; the headline award category that tops the award event each year. However, the upcoming game also won four other categories, including both Best PC Game and Best RPG. Somewhat unsurprisingly, it also won the ‘”Most Wanted” Consumer Award’ – hardly surprising given that it has won ‘Most Wanted‘ at the Golden Joystick awards two years in a row! A small portion of the full Gamescom awards list had already been announced during the opening night, and those included Best PlayStation Game, which also went to Cyberpunk 2077.

There’s no doubt that Cyberpunk 2077 is the most highly-anticipated game of 2020. After all, it’s had years and years to build up hype; a task which CD Projekt Red has certainly excelled at. Despite two lengthy delays to its release date, fans seem even more excited for its November release than ever. Encouragingly, footage and trailers from the game also suggest that it could well live up to the hype. After all, it would be disastrous if the game were to fall flat after building up such enormous levels of hype over so long.

Cyberpunk 2077 is due to release on the 19th of November, in just under two months’ time. Before then, CD Projekt Red is likely to release a few more teasers and early looks at the game. Indeed, their Night City Wire series has been extremely successful and is only two episodes in, with more to come. Previous episodes have offered glimpses of weapon gameplay, never-before-seen mechanics, and more.
