9 Amazing Screenshots from the New Red Dead Redemption 2 Trailer

With the brand new Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer currently online, we thought it’d be great to collect 9 amazing screenshots straight from the trailer and we can also break-down some things that have been spotted in them.

Let’s get straight into it.

This screenshot showcases what seems to be a customized revolver, held by a character. The revolver might be a tease at a feature of customizable skins for weapons and engravings – similar to Grand Theft Auto V’s gun customization through Ammu-Nation.

The campfire in this screenshot is almost certainly part of a cut-scene in the single-player mode, but it could bring the idea about of the re-adding of the feature in the original Red Dead Redemption which allowed you to set up camp pretty much anywhere you went.

This extremely cinematic shot of Arthur walking away from two gravestones could be his parents, relatives, or friends – maybe even enemies. It just presents the insane detail in the game and how it will become a very candid and gorgeous one.

This gorgeous shot is of the Van der Linde gang viewing a burning town – whether they caused it or not is up for discussion. The detail in the far views might imply that a larger render distance may be present on the current-generation hardware, although it might suffer from a locked 30FPS.

Of course, the one and only shot people are referring to is that of Mr John Marston. Marston was the playable protagonist in the original Red Dead Redemption, and [spoiler alert] dies in a tragic way at the end – sacrificing himself to save his family. After the game ends, you play as his son, Jack Marston. Due to Red Dead Redemption 2 being a prequel, it was almost inevitable John would make a return. Here, he is being used as a hostage or tried as a criminal – we’ll see whether it is for or against the Van der Linde gang.

This shot of Arthur Morgan riding his horse past a train is very cinematic, and the night sky looks beautiful with the clouds and grit of the smoke from the steam train.

Of course – the most famous feature of the old Wild West was the infamous duels two opponents had. Whether this shot is from a cutscene, or an actual duel in-game, we have yet to see. But, the town looks deserted in the rain, an ode to the characters who go indoors due to circumstances outside. We’ll talk about the detail in the NPCs in another article.

No game can go without a gritty, foggy picture – they are the best way to show off the ambient lighting and shadows in a game. Red Dead Redemption 2’s lighting does its justice here, portraying what is assumed to be Arthur Morgan watching the town around him burn down as the fires blaze on in the streaking daylight.

Our final screenshot from the Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer emphasizes the effect on the terrain from multiple horses running through. The dirt and soil spewing off the ground as the horseshoes clatter into the grass brings more hope for the detail in the game, which has been delayed twice.

Red Dead Redemption 2’s third trailer was extremely cinematic, and the fact that these screenshots were taken from a video and not setup before hand shows how little work is needed to bring the beauty of the game into a photographic piece of artwork. We cannot wait for The Art of Red Dead Redemption 2 to release after the launch.
