Sony Reveals First Look at Spider-Man: Miles Morales PS5 Box Art

Less than a month after announcing the game, Sony has revealed the PS5 box art for Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the highly anticipated follow-up to the enormously successful Marvel’s Spider-Man, which released as a PS4 exclusive title in 2018. Rather than a fully-fledged spin-off, Miles Morales is reportedly something more akin to a smaller format spin-off.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales PS5 Box Art Released

Spider-Man: Miles Morales was first announced last month during Sony’s big PS5 game reveal event. Miles Morales was originally planned to be DLC for the first game, prompting some confusion when the trailer was released. (A confusion which was deepened following misleading comments from a senior source at Sony.) The company has since clarified that it will be a new standalone game for the PS5. However, they have also said that the game will be smaller in scope than the 2018 title.

Today, the official PlayStation Blog revealed the PS5 box art for Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Most notably, the art does give fans a clear look at Miles Morales’ spider-suit as it will appear in the game. (Something which last month’s teaser trailer only gave partial glimpses of.) However, the reveal doesn’t include any other new information. It does reiterate that gamers will be seeing Spider-Man: Miles Morales; “on store shelves this holiday,” but doesn’t further clarify the release date.

This is something which was a running trend during the PS5 game reveal event last month; the event featured many trailers for upcoming PS5 games, but almost no details for release dates. Sony still has not announced a release date for the PS5 itself, of course. As such, game release dates are likely to be kept secret until they do. Whatever the case, Miles Morales is certainly looking very likely to be a launch title for the PS5. Indeed, that may very well be the reason why the game is now a standalone release rather than DLC – so that Sony could have at least one big-name PlayStation exclusive to have available for the PS5 at launch.
