A Particular Destiny 2 Nightfall Weapons is Proving To Be Very Elusive

When it comes to Destiny 2, one quirk that players may not be aware of is that there is a unique subset of loot which can only drop from a specific strike when that strike happens to be the weekly Nightfall. The title of this week’s Nightfall, Tree of Probabilities (based off the story mission-turned-strike from the Curse of Osiris DLC), has wound up being rather apt, since it contains a particular Legendary weapon which also happens to have a legendarily low drop rate.

The weapon in question is a Legendary tier hand cannon called D.F.A. The D.F.A. is coveted not only for its unique appearance but also because of its powerful perk loadout, a loadout which makes it an excellent weapon to use in both PvE and PvP activities. The only problem is that the D.F.A. also has an abysmally low drop rate, to the point where some players have run the Nightfall over 40 times and never seen the D.F.A. drop once for themselves or their teammates.

It has gotten to the point where many players are questioning whether the D.F.A. is even capable of dropping this week. The current theory is that the launch of the Warmind DLC introduced a bug that prevents players from finding the D.F.A. (this is the first time that Tree of Probabilities has been the Nightfall since Warmind launched). To its credit, Bungie has said it is looking into the matter, though as of this writing there is no final word on whether the Nightfall loot table is bugged or just working as (sadistically) intended.

While players wait for a final ruling from Bungie, they can at least run heroic strikes to earn guaranteed power boosts up to Power Level 365 thanks to the recently released update 1.2.1, a change which should help to cut down on the endgame grinding. Update 1.2.1 also reworks a small number of Exotic armor pieces, with more Exotic armor set to be reworked in July.

Update: Bungie has confirmed that Nightfall-specific loot isn’t dropping from either base game strikes or Curse of Osiris strikes. The studio is currently working on a fix.
